A one hour in depth hair loss consultation does requires a £45 booking fee. However, this is redeemed against your service so the consultation is in fact, free of charge.

HAIR LOSS CAN OCCUR AT ANY AGE
It is natural to lose more hair as we grow older however, hair loss can occur at any age, even in children.
If you (or your child) are losing more hair than usual, or you have noticed your hair is getting much thinner than usual it is only natural that you want to find out the root cause of the problem.
In this case in the first instance then it’s best to speak to your GP who may refer you to a Dermatologist, or you can speak to a qualified private Trichologist. Hair Loss professionals such as Trichologists may be able to prescribe vitamins or medication that will help stop the increased hair loss.
At your consultation with us if we feel it necessary, we will refer your issue to a Trichology specialist for female hair loss treatment who may be able to help advise us and/or treat your condition.
At Authentic Locks we understand how distressing hair loss and hair thinning can be. For most ladies, our hair is extremely important to us so it is understandable that suffering from any sort of hair loss or thinning can be upsetting. Often it results in a loss of confidence, but in some cases, it can even have a negative effect on your mental health.
A lot of ladies we deal with who are experiencing female hair loss say it has affected their quality of life due to feeling anxious about their condition when they are out in public. It can often limit ladies in participating in activities they enjoy due to fear of their hair loss being noticed.

Hair Loss Services
We often get asked about hair extensions for hair loss as this is often what people will think about first if they are considering anything to thicken their hair. Our hair extension systems can occasionally be used for thin hair depending on the cause and severity of your condition. We often get asked what is the least damaging extensions for thin hair? Our reply to this would be, if suitable, it would be very small micro ring hair extensions, or nano ring hair extensions as they are sometimes known. These are the most undetectable hair extensions available. They are very discreet and can be applied to even the most extremely fine hair if a professional hair loss technician has assessed this correctly. This method is basically extremely small clip-on extensions with no need to use harsh bonds or adhesives. These miniature micro ring hair extensions are the only recommended hair extension method for anyone suffering with hair loss.
Micro Parting
These small hair parting systems are suitable for people with early thinning of the parting area. Micro partings are not a wig but a semi-permanent/fixed hair system that is worn every day to give you a thicker parting. It can be slept in so no worrying about removing it on a night, or when playing sports or anything else. We use an added hair piece using the very finest Russian hair.
The micro parting comes in various small sizes and is attached to the top of your head with micro rings and/or nano rings, it will require maintenance appointments approximately every 4 weeks which takes approximately 30–75 mins (Charged at our hourly maintenance rate of £72 per hour)

Integrated Hair Enhancer System
This is a larger hair replacement system that is integrated with your own hair. As with the micro-parting, integration systems are not wigs. They are a semi-permanent /fixed system that is worn every day and slept in. So, no worrying about taking it off on a night or playing sports etc.
It is created using hair wefts and an added hair piece using the very finest Russian hair, or whatever hair type best suits your origin.
Our integrated hair systems are tailor made to fit for each client. As they are bespoke, they can be as big or small as required. Exactly how we fix your integration system will be discussed at your initial consultation as this can be dependent on your stage of hair loss and the hair and scalp inspection we perform.
The Integrated Hair Enhancer System initial fitting time is a much longer sitting than the fitting toppers we will discuss in the next section. This is because everything is built on you.
Because this is a system that Is made up of parts that are actually built into the system on you. They are usually a faster lead time that the below option of toppers. Lead times from time of order to you fitting can be anything from 2-8 weeks generally depending on wether we are going for a double knotted or single knotted parting (this will be discussed at your consultation)
One big advantage of these systems is they are made up of separate parts. This means when your system has any wear and tear, you can just pay to replace parts on it rather than having to replace the entire system.
The only few disadvantages to these systems is:
- Slightly less flexibility parting position wise than a topper
- Possible sight return hair matting
- The parting is material based (lace base with some silk under or over the lace.
Integrated Hair Enhancer System, continued
Another benefit with this system type is that it is Interchangeable/adaptable with regards to it can be changed to a clip on or stick down system if needs be. Or we can make this base as a stick down initially with a view to integrating your hair through it if/when your hair starts to re grow back if that is something that is on the cards. We will discuss all this with you at your consultation and assess what best fits your needs.
If it is fixed with rings to your hair at multiple points from underneath the system base, it does of course move with your natural hair growth. However, fixing with rings everywhere is not always suitable for everyone.
It will depend how severe your hair loss is and where. In areas where there is more than 50% hair loss it will not be possible to attach a hair system with rings to your natural hair in that case.
This is when we would advise to glue or tape the system down certainly in places. The area will have to be clean shaved in the part that is glued but please don’t worry as this still grows back and it is actually the most secure and flush way to fit a system and ensures maximum undetectability.
Even if you have more than 50% of your hair at the front, if you want a really flush fit that won’t move as soon as your hair starts growing, glue or tape down at the front is undoubtably the most secure and flush fit for the front.
If you suffer from Trichotillomania (hair pulling) this system can be suitable dependant on the area you are most susceptible to pulling. If you know your place of preference is at the top of your head (where the system is fitted) then there is still of course the risk that you can be tempted to pull at the hair that is integrated through the system.
Not only would this cause further damage to your hair, but it would leave the system with lower anchorage to fit to/less hair where it is fixed down therefore, the system will then also move more and eventually become unwearable. I have only seen once instance where someone has done this but it is of course a possibility I would recommend you consider. If you are concerned about this and have Trichotillomania, one of our Toppers could possibly suit your needs better.

Maintenance on this system does take longer than its alternative (our toppers which we will move onto in our next section). If you are on a budget you may want to consider this.

Topper
Authentic Locks also can provide a bespoke topper which can be worn as a fixed system (micro ring attachment to your natural hair, glued down, or tape down, or a combination), or they can be worn as a fully removable clip-on hair piece that sits on the crown.
Our toppers are fully bespoke and made to your size specifications. There are numerous ways your topper can be fitted. These will be discussed with you at your initial consultation as this can be dependent on your stage of hair loss and the hair and scalp inspection we perform.
They can be made as Lace base, PU base, Monoskin / Prosthetic scalp base, silk with soft lace underneath. There is so many options.
As our toppers are sent off to be made by special machines the cuticle has always been removed from the return hairs so there is no matting risk at the root. Anyone handmaking a system here will be unable to do that, that can only exclusively be done abroad to the materials and machines they use not being available in the UK.
Mono-skin toppers can be made fit flush to the front, as you can stick this down and the base is literally like a prosthetic scalp so is the most undetectable way of fitting at the front that is possible.
As toppers are not breathable (unless they are lace), there is no gaps in that area with hair pulled through. If we fix these to your natural hair this is done around the perimeter of the system only
If you require a partial system for your crown area and you have or require curly or wavy hair, these are really the only option where the curl pattern can be matched exactly as this is done with specialist equipment abroad.
Due to these being sent off to be made to your exact requirements there is a lead time of 2.5-4.5 months on the production of these systems.
One downside to this system is when it has any wear and tear damage, i.e., any shedding, unless it is a very small repair required on a lace base only, it cannot be repaired and it means a full system replacement. However, we do feel these systems have plenty of advantages that do outweigh this fact. In general, they are fantastic hair loss solutions.
Generally, maintenance on toppers (if they are fixed), is required every 4-week weeks which takes approximately 30–75 mins (Charged at our hourly maintenance rate of £72 per hour). So, it is a faster maintenance time than the Integrated Hair Enhancer System.
Or if it is removable there is of course no ongoing maintenance appointments that you need to attend.
Initial fitting time is also faster than on the Integrated Hair Enhancer System so this is ideal if you do not like sitting for prolonged periods of time.
These systems are also around 1/3 cheaper than Integrated Hair Enhancer System with prices starting at £977.
Wigs / Full Caps
Authentic Locks are highly experienced in traditional wig making, meaning we are able to design you a fully customised, luxury bespoke made wig.
Our bespoke wigs are made using the finest Russian hair. Each strand is individually knotted into high-definition lace. The hair has been expertly coloured and hand blended to create your desired look.
Our wigs can be treated just like your normal hair, so it can be curled, washed, straightened etc.
Lead time can be anything from approximately 1-5 months dependant on the details of the wig you require.
Wigs are removable, Full Caps are fixed.
Dependant on how you would be wearing your full cap will depend on whether you need to come for maintenance with us.
Wigs / Full Caps
If you are wearing it with just some stick down patches, this can actually be done yourself at home in some instances. Others would require you to perhaps attend for a short maintenance appointment (approx. 1 hour) every 4 weeks.
If it is to be integrated with your hair then the system will require maintenance approximately every 4-7 weeks and can usually be done in approximately 75-120 minutes and is charged at our rate of £72 per hour. The system will need a longer maintenance time approximately every 3rd-5th appointment so that we can take the system off, give your scalp a special scalp cleansing treatment, and the system be realigned again. This takes approximately 3-4 hours and is also charged at our rate of £72 per hour.

Lace Patches or Invisi-Patches
Hair Extensions for Alopecia or wigs for alopecia often does not work or are too much for the small area affected. In this instance we would advise our Handmade lace patches or Invisi-Lace inserts. Many people ask if hair extensions can help cover bald spots? Most of the time the answer to this is no.
Using our skills as wig makers we can hand tie each individual strand of hair onto intricate lace, shaped to fit any hair loss patch, to give the illusion of the hair growing from the scalp.
Lace patches can be made to any size, the hair is hand tied into the base and then the piece is clipped in or attached to under your parting, or in a thinner fringe area, to blend seamlessly.
Maintenance costs on this would be dependent on size but generally it would be similar or less maintenance cost to our Micro Parting.
Hair Extensions to thicken Hair
We offer a range of hair extensions whether you want to add length or just a little volume to compliment your current length, we provide a range of hair to suit all budgets and we have different methods to suit all hair types. A lot of people ask us which hair extensions are best for thin hair? To answer this, we would firstly need to assess your hair at consultation to see if you will be suitable for hair extensions and if so, what hair extension attachment method will be best. We create all our hair extensions using Russian or Slavic hair if the client is suffering from any type of hair thinning. This is due to Russian or Slavic hair being the most lightweight and fine in density so is the best hair type to use. The fact that we import and stock this wonderful luxury hair means we are able to produce you the best quality hair system or hair extensions possible. Russian hair extensions are renowned for being the best quality in the world.
FAQ’s
If you have the system as a clip on/removal system which you can clip on and remove/put back on yourself then there are no maintenance costs. Some people prefer these as they need/like to be able to remove the system for medical, religious, or just general purposes (I.e., they like to be able to take it off for washing sleeping etc)
Fixed systems will of course require maintenance as the hair it is attached to is still growing, or in the case of stick down methods, hair will still grow back in the area where the system is glued down and you will still sweat etc
Stick down (whether full or just at the front) is the most flush/undetectable fitting type.
Full stick down or stick down at the front and fixed with rings at the sides/ back, and you may have to retape/re-fix this down yourself in small areas from time to time.
Lace base would be easier to repair a small amount of shedding, however this is only cost effective to repair if it is a very small area.
Monoskin/PU/Prosthetic Scalp Toppers are not breathable, but do tend to fit flusher to the scalp (especially when glued/taped at the front). However, any shedding over time is not repairable.
Silk mimics skin very well but any shedding over time is also not repairable.
The integration mesh used on the integrated enhancer system is breathable.
With Micro parting, Integrated Enhancer System, and toppers:
If you are wanting to part hair and tie back/put behind ears you have to be very strategic that you pull hair over the front parting so not to expose the system edge.
Interchangeable/adaptable with regards to it can be changed to a clip on or stick down system if needs be. Or we can make this base as a stick down initially with a view to integrating your hair through it if/when your hair starts to re grow
With our wigs:
Unless it’s a frontal lace front wig then the advice would be the same as for Micro parting, Integrated Enhancer System, and toppers. A frontal lace wig can put up in up in a bun, or tied up/swept back. You need to be aware though that as this is effectively pulling the wig against gravity then there will be a high amount of upkeep you need to perform at home to manage keeping your frontal wig fixed down in place.
