Why we predominantly use Russian Hair for our luxury hair extensions

Russian hair is the superior hair choice for anyone of European/British origin mainly due to it being so fine and silky. Russian hair is renowned for being full or lustre and retaining its elasticity extremely well so it lifts to exceptionally light shades with ease, whist retaining premium quality. Its glossy, strong, and light in texture and density meaning it has an exceedingly long lifespan, looks, and feels amazing!

When Russian hair is lifted to these lovely creamy pearl (or even white) blondes that we like in the UK, it achieves this very easily without harsh lifting. This is mainly since there are a lot of people with natural light shades of hair in Russian. The less hair is coloured and processed means the better the quality stays hence why Russia’s pre-coloured hair can last up to 3 years and their virgin hair even longer! You would never get this high longevity with any other hair type.

Yes, you can obtain Chinese and Indian hair at a lower price, but the quality will not be as high. This is because their hair is very dark to start off with, as well as it sometimes not being ethically collected. This means the factories will firstly strip the hair by dipping it in acid then put it through a harsh colouring process then, more often than not, they will coat the hair in silicone to give off a false silky feel.

The silicone coating is applied as the acid spoils the hairs cuticles making the hair weak, fragile, and coarse. The silicone gives a false feeling of a silky texture initially, but this washes off after just a couple of washes and leaves the hair dry, coarse, unmanageable, and subject to matting and tangling.

Russian hair is not cheap, but it certainly is the best that money can buy. We cannot stress enough not be fooled by prices that are too good to be true when it comes to hair extensions.

Can I add colour with Hair Extensions?

The answer to this is yes! Maybe your hair is too dark or damaged from over bleaching/previous colour services.

Hair extensions are a great solution which enables you give you have a lighter over all look without sacrificing the condition of your hair. Our expertise means this be a seamless blend and of course, very natural looking.

Can I thicken my hair with Hair Extensions or fill out gaps?

Yes of course!

Authentic Locks offer an extremely popular filler service using ¼ or sometimes ½ head of hair. This can be used to add thickness to your hair and a small touch of length, or to fill out any missing gaps in your hair. Gaps can have been caused by breakage or hormonal changes and we understand this can be quite distressing but please do not worry, this is an area we specialise in. Our filling service adds volume and creates a fuller shape where the hair is missing or thinner, giving you that little bit extra just where you need it.

Authentic Locks are the ONLY salon in Yorkshire that stocks hair in shorter lengths of 8”-12” for filling out bobs, shorter styles, and mid length hair. We are extremely fortunate that as we draw all our own ponytails, we have an amazing amount of stock of short length luxury hair as well as long lengths. This means no overpaying because we are cutting the hair length down like many other salons need to do (leaving you paying the difference and that extra length of hair ended up cut off and, on the floor)

These shorter lengths are now a lot more popular as extensions are no longer considered simply for adding mass length for younger girls. They are now also extremely popular for more conservative looks for middle-older age ladies. We think less is very often more when it comes to achieving subtle short-mid length volume. We’re sure you’ll agree!

Hair Extensions Maintenance Services

To keep your hair extensions and your own hair in correct condition you will need to have hair extensions maintenance appointments. These are recommended every 7-10 weeks depending on the method of hair extensions you have.

Hair Extensions methods we cover are Micro Ring Hair extensions, Nano ring hair extensions, Tape Hair extensions, Micro Weft hair extensions, Russian Weaves.

We exclusively use micro ring attachments (better known as micro rings) when fitting hair extensions. Most Trichologists and Senior Hair technicians such as ourselves will agree that micro ring hair extensions are the guaranteed safe method of attachment. The mini metal rings with gentle silicone padding mean that fitting is damage-free as well as still being extremely discreet.

Maintaining the quality of your hair is of absolute paramount to us therefore absolutely no harsh glue bonds or chemicals are used in any of our hair extension methods.

The micro ring hair extension method is not only easy to maintain at home. But your hair extension maintenance is also comfortable and safe. Your maintenance extensions maintenance appointment will include:

Moving all extensions back to their correct position.
Replacing old micro rings with new.
Re-gluing and Re-tipping of any hair extensions tips to prevent shedding (our glue has been assessed in shampoo and water for 100 hours+ so is the absolute best on the market).
Ensuring your own hair is in good condition and is tangle free.
Putting back in any hair extensions that may have come out within this duration.

Hair Extension Maintenance

Your hair extensions are designed to be reused repeatedly.

Our ethos is that the ongoing service standard should match the high standards of the hair we offer. Our hair extension maintenance service is in depth and helps maximise the life of your hair extensions and ensure the health of your natural hair.

With our high standard of hair extension maintenance, our luxury Russian hair extensions can last up to 3-5 years!

Your Hair Extension Maintenance Appointment

Each client receives a free health check appointment at our hair extension salon, to be taken after hair extensions have been worn for 3 weeks. After the free check-up, please follow the recommended maintenance timescales on your aftercare sheet to ensure you keep up to your maintenance appointments. These appointments are designed to increase the longevity of your hair extensions and protect the natural hair.

The cost of your hair extension maintenance appointments will depend on how many hair extensions and the condition you have kept them in. To assess this fairly we charge hair extension maintenance by time at a rate of £55 per hour (price as of September 2022, may be subject to change at a later date).

During your hair extension maintenance appointment, each extension attachment is carefully removed.

Any Micro Ring Hair Extensions are then checked, and where necessary, re-tipped using our own Authentic Locks keratin bonding material. This ensures that no shedding will occur and removes any shampoo build up. We also check the health of your natural hair and scalp to ensure any underlying scalp and hair conditions are spotted if they have occurred. We believe that all hair extension technicians should also be checking for these as your client’s hair and scalp health should be of paramount concern.

You can expect your maintenance appointment to last between 2 and 4 hours depending on the amount of hair you have in. We offer all of our clients’ complimentary tea, coffee, magazines, and Wi-Fi access. There is also plenty of free parking.

Authentic Locks Bespoke Colour Blending Service

Hair Extensions should never be spotted. A key factor in this is the all-important colour match. A seamless colour match is paramount for natural looking hair extensions.

Often a customer will not be one block colour on a colour match. Hair naturally oxidises meaning it is rare for even natural hair to be just one colour. Your hair will generally have multiple tones running through it that may not be noticed at first glance. This is even more likely if you have ever had any sort of colour or highlights on your hair.

At Authentic Locks we often mix anything from two, to even eight assorted colours to hand blend together your precise exact hair match. Yes, it is a little more time consuming, but isn’t everything that’s worth it?

Not only do we have all the specialist equipment to do this, but we are one of the only hair institutions in the UK to hold rare qualifications in Raw Hair Preparation. Our qualifications and equipment enable us to match the colour, texture, and density of your hair to absolute perfection!

Of course, it does not all come down to colour. Your hair texture, curl pattern, or natural wave also has to be a primary consideration. At your consultation we will assess exactly what we need to match your hairs exact texture or pattern.

Your Hair Extension Consultation

Before any hair extension fitting, a consultation appointment will be required so we can assess your hair and scalp, and also to discuss the look you are wanting to achieve.

Our experienced creative director will talk you through our selection of hair including our extensive range of hair and advise you on the best way to achieve your desired outcome.

We will show you exactly what colours we will hand blend to achieve your perfect colour match as well as also explaining how exactly we will fit your hair extensions to best achieve the look you are wanting.

If you are unsure if extension attachments will be comfortable, we can even fit a couple to your hair so that you can see how discreet and comfortable they are to wear.

At this stage we will then finalise an exact quotation to achieve your desired look. Please feel free to see our pricing guide further down on this page to give you an idea of costings before your consultation.

A 30 minute in depth hair extension consultation does requires a £20 booking fee. However, this is redeemed against your service, so the consultation is in fact, free of charge.

Once the consultation process is complete, we prepare your unique set of hair ready for your fitting. Our workshop is set up with specialist equipment that enable us to do this to the highest standard.

Your Hair Extension Consultation

It is, of course, more time consuming than just buying off the shelf hair, however we know how worth it going that extra mile is. As we often have a few sets of hair to make per week, the lead time for your hair preparation can take a few days up to a couple of weeks.

First shorter hairs less than 8” need to be removed from the raw hair using specialist equipment. Then we have an exceedingly rare set of drawing brushes made from boar bristle that enables us to double drawn your hair to the highest level with absolutely no waste.

After this stringent preparation procedure, your hair is also washed to ensure we have quality assessed the hair when wet as well as dry. This is because it is extremely easy to miss a fault on dry hair but near impossible to mistake any faults if hair is wet. Only at this point has your set of hair passed all of our quality checks.

The duration of your fitting will be dependent on what exactly you have having done. This will be confirmed at your initial consultation with us. It rarely would exceed 4 hours but can be as fast as 1 hour.

Before and during your hair extensions fitting, our creative director will take the time to ensure you have all the information you need with regards to aftercare advice and that you have a copy of our hair extension aftercare form.

Cutting and styling of your hair extensions at your fitting is always included in the price we have given you at consultation so there are no hidden extras on the day that you need to worry about.

Will my hair extensions feel heavy?

As well as double drawn Russian Hair Extensions , we can also offer Single Drawn Hair Extensions , Natural ratio hair extensions , or Medium drawn hair extensions.

Russian Double Drawn Hair is perfect if you are wanted maximum volume and wow factor hair.

Our other options are perfect if you still want high quality hair but do not quite want the highest quality hair thickness and texture wise.

Hair extension technicians advise double drawn hair often as it gives the most glamorous results. But if you want a more natural look or you have exceptionally fine hair, then other options may be more suitable for you.

Hair Extensions Prices

Unfortunately, it is exceedingly difficult for you to gain an accurate price for your desired look without a consultation.

Price is dependent on the quality of hair you chose, the length and the number of strands required for your hair, your head circumference, crown placement, and amount of length you are adding to your natural hair and where. Hair Extensions from us are a bespoke service but you may use the pricing charts below as a guide.

All our hair is double drawn to the highest natural ratio unless otherwise stated. If you desire a more natural look speak to us about medium drawn or single drawn options.

All Hair Extension removal and ongoing maintenance appointments are charged by time at a rate of £55 per hour.

Indian Temple Hair

Only the healthiest hair, of Indian ethical and traceable origin and scrupulously selected, is used at Authentic Locks . Obtain your sensual and full-bodied hairstyle with our Indian Temple Hair. Perfect for if you want glossy long lengths that are voluminous and full throughout the entire lengths for the most reasonable price. Not always the most suitable choice for those with fine/straight/thin hair as Indian hair is heavier than our Slavic ranges and has more natural fluff and lustre so you will need to consider this when selecting this hair type. A very good choice if you and wanting thick hair with natural full body, and you are wanting those long lengths (over 18”) at a better price tag, or the extreme long lengths (24”+) that are possibly not available in our other hair types. This lifespan may not be quite as long as our other hair types but our Indian hair is still an unparalleled hair extension quality to make your head as precious as never before. This hair can last 8-10 months, sometimes longer with correct upkeep and maintenance.

European / Former Soviet Slavic Hair

This hair is ethically sourced, cuticle aligned luxury Slavic hair. It is collected from areas just off the southern boarders of Russia and from European countries. It is only very lightly processed to achieve its colour. It is cuticle correct luxury hair & all the short strands of hair have been removed ensuring a thick voluminous look. Silky and soft to touch, and known for its low density, this hair is light in texture and is the most economical choice price wise if you are wanting smooth, straight hair or your own hair is fine/straight/thin. This hair can last up to 1.5 years, sometimes longer with correct upkeep and maintenance. This hair range is a very popular choice with our regular clients.

Premium Russian Slavic Hair

This hair is sourced from small rural parts of Russia. It is super fine, soft, & low in density, making it the silkiest hair available in the world today. This hair has only been very lightly factory processed in order to achieve its beautiful, colour fast shades. As it has been factory processed to keep it colour fast (the same as our Indian and European Slavic hair ranges), please do not confuse this hair type with Virgin Russian Hair (this is our next category). Still as high in its quality, the main difference is you cannot lighten this range of Russian hair. Most clients have no desire to do this anyway and if this is something you know you will not have any need to do then this is the most premium of hair you will buy. It comes in thick ponytails and all the short hairs are carefully removed by our in-house double drawing process to leave you with the most exquisite luxury double drawn hair. This hair can last up to 3 years (sometimes longer) with the correct upkeep and maintenance.

Luxury Virgin Raw Russian Range

This hair is the absolute best hair you will get in the world! It does have a remarkably high price tag but boy is it worth it?! Oh yes!

When this hair is collected it will only be harvested if it is virgin hair or the hair has only ever been very lightly tinted (with no ammonia) by the donor. This means you really are getting the highest grade of luxury hair.

This hair can be lightened so some people who swear by virgin Russian hair like it for this reason as they have flexibility to adapt and change the colour of their hair with their professional hair colourist.

As always at Authentic Locks, the short stands of hair have been removed so that you have much thicker hair that looks full and luxurious. This hair can last up to 5 years with the correct upkeep and maintenance and is the rarest and finest quality hair available in the world. We are one of very few salons in Europe to get our hands on this beautiful double drawn silky hair, serious hair envy!
