Jewish Wigs
When a wig is used by orthodox Jewish women they are referred to as “sheitel” or “shaitel” otherwise pronounced as shaytl (פאה נוכרית). It is understood from biblical times that as a rule religious married women should cover their hair and in doing so this is to demonstrate modesty. As opposed to wearing perhaps a scarf to cover hair, Jewish wigs in recent years have become a popular and new alternative, particularly in the Jewish community.
